Chapter 01 · European origin

Where liquorice is simply everywhere.

For our German founder, liquorice was never simply black candy. It was soft, salty, sweet, intense and endlessly varied — in kiosks and bakeries, in coat pockets and glove compartments, offered around a table as naturally as coffee. Across Germany, the Netherlands and the Nordic countries, liquorice is not a curiosity. It is a culture, with its own spectrum of textures and its own quiet rituals.

Growing up inside that culture teaches you something useful: liquorice is not one flavour. It is a range — and everyone, given time, finds their place on it.

Chapter 02 · Malaysian discovery

A country of extraordinary taste, missing one flavour.

Malaysia is one of the great eating countries of the world — a place where food is hospitality, curiosity and identity all at once. And yet here, that full liquorice experience remained largely undiscovered. What little arrived came without introduction: no guidance, no gradient, no way in. Liquorice stayed a rumour — something tried once, too strong, too soon, and set aside.

That gap did not look like a problem. It looked like an invitation.

Chapter 03 · The product challenge

Respect the root. Open the door.

The challenge was never to make liquorice taste like something else. It was to develop liquorice that respects its distinctive character while offering approachable textures and flavour combinations — softer bites, rounded sweetness, dark chocolate and warm caramel as companions, and an honest intensity scale so no one is ambushed by their first taste.

It begins with real liquorice extract, slow-cooked in small batches, and it ends with a label that tells you exactly what is inside. Some creations are soft and welcoming. Others are dark, bold and unapologetically intense. All of them are made here, in Malaysia.

Chapter 04 · The Pryter philosophy

Precision, curiosity, craft and generous hospitality.

Four words carry everything we do. Precision — a German-inspired insistence that every batch tastes like the last one. Curiosity — the belief that unfamiliar flavours are a pleasure, not a test. Craft — slow cooking, honest ingredients, and packaging that feels considered in the hand. And hospitality — the Malaysian kind, where the point of having something good is sharing it.

We combine European-inspired confectionery with flavours and presentation designed for contemporary Malaysian tastes. Not one heritage borrowed, not the other decorated — two cultures, each doing what it does best.
